I love this 💯 Honestly lots of my friends and my partner has told me I obviously have ADHD and we laugh about it. But I never make it an excuse to be less. I always do the opposite and find ways to be more.
My friend literally diagnosed me with ADHD the other day too!!
Maybe we do, who knows but for me, it’s only a recent thing for me to not be able to focus so much and that’s definitely a result of me having 2,000 things that excite me.
Coincidently, I saw an old friend last night who told me that her daughter (now 35!) went through withdrawal after trying to stop ADHD medication as a teenager. Her mom says she finally got off the meds, went to college, got a perfect score on the LSATS, and went to one of the best law schools in the country. So YES to "Focus on your strengths, baby!" You are a good mom.
It’s sad that we have to be intentional about giving our brains a break and letting them breathe but that’s also the catalyst for creativity. I like your advise about boredom…when my girls were small we would start every school holiday with a pyjama day to decompress and midway through the hols at least one unplanned day to ‘see’ what emerged out of our free time / boredom.
Oh I know, it should come naturally but unfortunately, it a world like this — it just doesn’t. We have to be intentional with it all, work so hard to give ourselves the things that just aren’t natural any more.
LOVE that you still allow them that transition period of ‘being’, I’m all about that in our house — your nervous system needs the rest. To me always wanting to do something is a sure sign of needing to slowwww.
Thanks for your thoughtful reply Sian. Have the best weekend 😘
This is so absolutely true! There is many times in the day that I have questioned my sanity. Too much flowing in and overwhelming my thoughts. The fact of the matter is exactly as you explained, you just have to slow down and disconnect.
Thank you for your comment and I’m so glad it hit you..
I’m forever checking in with myself and asking the questions because the world is just so LOUD and we get pulled into the chaos without even realising it. Always about coming back to who you really are and what actually deserves space in your mind 😌
